Our client in St. Charles is looking for CNC set-up Operators on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts! CNC Set up 1 must have full knowledge of a CNC control panel and can set up and process complex parts from start to finish on CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. They will also help maintain daily production through tool changes, changeovers, and daily maintenance. Mentor and train set up 2 and machine operators. Must be able to read and create setup information and do program editing, if necessary (Reboring jaws, aligning fixtures, setting taper, replacing broken tools, etc.) Can read and fully understand a blueprint and can come up with a methodology to process a part from start to finish. This opportunity is offering $22-$28/hr. depending on experience. Job Responsibilities

  • Practice safety standards as identified by the Company Handbook, orientation, and verbal instruction from supervisory staff. This includes safety glasses, proper shoes, lifting techniques, and safe chip handling.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, this includes but is not limited to, tool boxes, tools, machines, gages, and gage tables. This includes wiping down tools in the toolbox and keeping the toolbox in an organized manner in which to reduce time to finding tools needed to set up machines.
  • Captures setup and tool change time through logging in and out of jobs through data collection terminals.
  • Report to Supervisor or Manager the cycle time and production rate of all jobs attended to.
  • Change stick tools (including knurls), reamers, drills, and boring bars. Live and static.
  • Performs daily maintenance as required per department, boring jaws, aligning fixtures or vises, cleaning collets or guide bushings.
  • With supervision, does minor program edits, changing tool locations, or speed and feed as directed by engineering.
  • Set up repeat jobs.
  • Completes 100% of the dimensions on a 1st article submission.
  • Conducts a visual inspection on the part to ensure fillets, breaks, part finishes, blends, and workmanship meet company standards.
  • Completes job-related paperwork accurately and completely which includes but is not limited to, tool layout sheets, offset sheets, etc.
  • Mentors and guides lesser skilled machine operators to achieve desired skill level.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4-7 years prior machine shop experience setting up and/or running production in a precision manufacturing environment, using and reading various measuring instruments, and working with multi-axis CNC lathes, Swiss-type CNC lathes, and vertical machining centers.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Read and understand a complex blueprint/geometric tolerance interpretation.
  • Understand and demonstrate tool selection via vending machine and tool crib. Can explain and identify different nose radius tools to ensure correct inserts are being used.
  • Can read and follow setup instructions, tool layout sheet, machine setup checklist, and other setup-related documents.
  • Can changeover machine to run product in the same family, turnings, cones, etc.
  • Ability to analyze customer part drawing to develop process, tooling, and fixture requirements to produce parts within specified print tolerances.
  • Can write a CNC program using Computer Aided Manufacturing software (CAM) package.
  • Knowledge of tool holders both live and static, cutting tools, and inserts.
  • Full knowledge of the CNC control panel and safety features available on the control, single block, optional stop, distance to go, etc.

The hourly rate for this position is anticipated between $22.00 - $28.00 per hour. This range is a good-faith estimate, based on the shift you work and other considerations permitted by law.
